The Gold Medal, the Senior Piobaireachd, The Silver Medal and The Former Winners March Strathspey and Reel are World Championship competitions with a strong international component. As overseas players are unable to compete this year due to pandemic restrictions, these competitions could not be held in 2021.
Despite this, the Directors of the Argyllshire Gathering Trust were anxious to arrange an event to mark its 150th Anniversary and so on Wednesday 25th August at the Argyllshire Gathering Hall in Oban piping competitions will be held in front of a live audience.
The seven invited pipers all have strong Argyll connections and are some of the world’s best: Jamie Forrester (Isle of Mull), Alasdair Henderson (Dunoon), Finlay Johnston (Isle of Tiree), Stuart Liddell (Inveraray), William MacCallum (Campbeltown), Angus MacColl (Benderloch) and Sarah Muir (Campbeltown).
The Piobaireachd competition will commence at 12.00 and will be followed by a March, Strathspey and Reel and a Medley competition. Covid guidelines will be observed but there is no cap on audience numbers. Entry is free of charge.
On Thursday 26th, following the March to the Games, Mossfield will again be alive with the best home based pipers competing in March, Strathspey, Reel and Jig competitions. Piping Admission is free.
